I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]
Philippians 1:6
Would you ever eat only half a plate of food? Do only half of your work? Only half a gym session? Perhaps you would. Does it give you a great feeling though? No. Nobody likes to leave things undone and unfinished. If you’re a perfectionist like me, you’re even worse. You just cannot leave anything undone, you don’t like leaving things incomplete. You feel such satisfaction and fulfillment when you’ve completed a job well done.
Taking it all the way back to creation, when God finished creating something; He said it was good. He was satisfied with the work of His hands - the work He had completed. Do you ever look in the mirror and not like what you see? This question is for men too! Let’s be honest - many times we look in the mirror and we don’t like what we see. We don’t like the finished article. Before we go further into this reading, I’d like to make a salient point right here. We are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). So don’t be phased by all the imperfections what you see in the mirror. You are a work of art - God’s art!
Another important thing to remember is that what you see is not the finished product. You are a work in progress. God is not finished with you yet, He is making you into His masterpiece. Ask any artist. Can you create a masterpiece in a few hours? Days? No. Sometimes it takes weeks and months to create something beautiful. Along the way, we may be utterly confused as to what the artist is drawing or painting - we have no idea what is being created and often times, it does look ugly. However, it ends up being a beautiful work of art. As Ephesians 2:10 says, "We are His workmanships, created for good works...".
So it is with us - along the way we may experience setbacks, difficulties, challenges that show an incomplete image, an incomplete person. This is not the end. We can be 'convinced and confident' that God will perfect and complete the work He is doing in us until He is satisfied with what He sees and who we have become. We will also be satisfied too. Every day He is moulding us and making us who He wants us to be - His masterpiece.
So be patient, the work is ongoing.
Here’s what He says to you today:
You may not like what you see My child, but I know how beautiful you will turn out to be. I see the future and I am fashioning you into the beautiful person I created you to be. I will complete that which I have started. Be patient and trust Me.
Pray this Prayer today:
Help me to be patient God. Help me to trust the work You are doing it me. It may be painful at time but help me to remember that challenges make me stronger and that you will perfect Your work in me.
