"I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. "
Romans 8:38-39
“I love you”. I’m sure these are the most used and misused words, ever. How many times have you told someone that you love them? How many times have you been told that you’re loved?
Some have been more fortunate than others in that they have had a very loving upbringing, others, not so much. I remember growing up hearing that nothing I did would make my parents love me any less, they’d give it all up in a heartbeat for my sister and I. I’m not a mother (yet), but it is hard for me to even try and grasp the love of a mother - it seems limitless. God’s word, The Bible, asks in Isaiah 49:15, “Can a mother forget the infant at her breast,
walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget,I’d never forget you—never.” This must mean that some mothers can “forget” their own child - it is possible. Though the thought of my own mother forgetting me is a difficult pill to swallow, it also provides a mind blowing perspective on the love of God. Nobody can love you like He does - not your parents, spouse, children, best friend, aunt, uncle, grandparents, yourself. Yes, you cannot even love yourself the way God loves you, it's impossible. We take it for granted every single day - and yet it never runs out. Its deep, its immeasurable - it's everlasting (Jeremiah 31:3)
I am so relieved to know that whatever I do, wherever I am - God still loves me unconditionally. His love is not like the imperfect love that we see and experience every day. The type that is there for us in only the good times, the type that remembers the wrongs we do, the type that has human limits. Doesn’t it make you feel overwhelmed when you think of God’s love? Perhaps the way you’ve thought of God (religiously or otherwise) has been filled with fear, filled with reverence so much that you’ve never been exposed to his perfect love (1 John 4:18). You need to readjust your concept of God's love. Human love is conditional, but God’s love is unconditional. If I were to sit here and write out all the adjectives I could describe God’s love, this daily thought would never end. There’s a challenge for you. Today, write down all the adjectives you can to describe God’s love toward you - I guarantee you, there won’t be enough. Wow! You’ll be in tears at the end of it. For now, I’ll leave you with the words of one of my favourite songs:
“He is jealous for me, Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.
And we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If His grace is an ocean, we're all sinking.
And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don't have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way
That He loves us”
Here’s what He says to you today:
“I love you. You won’t understand it right away, it seems unfathomable but it's true. I really do love you. There is nothing that can separate you from my love - absolutely nothing. I want you to live in my love, let it overtake you, overwhelm you, engulf you so that you never forget how much I love you. I loved you at your worst and I’ll love you through every season in your life. I gave everything for you and I’d do it all over again. I’ll love you even if you’ll never love me. Please, my child, accept my love today.”
Pray this prayer today:
God, I accept your love. It sounds too amazing to ignore and way too much for me to escape. I want to accept you so I can share your love with others I meet. Thank you for giving your all to and for me. Help me feel your love you back.
